The secrets of website success

. . .  a disciplined approach to the job.

Your success is not difficult.  It’s not dependent on magic wands or little-known formulas. It’s down to completing a programme of work.
  • Structure – essentially; how logical and easy is your navigation?
  • Keyword research – no, not a brainstorm but what the market is actually using.  And it’s easy-peasy because Google wants you to have the right keywords too
  • Usability or the art of not irritating customers by asking for their postcodes more than once and such like things
  • Optimisation – making Google love you.  We have the check list. It's on the site for you
  • Content, content, content. Give the punters what they want
  • Links; essentially an exercise in making your site attractive
  • Pay-per-click which, used correctly, is a money machine.

Keyword Research – don’t let up

2nd February 2012

Experian is reporting some remarkable figures.   We all know that iPads were flying off the shelves, sorry, generating the clicks, in the run-up to Christmas but it still seems remarkable that 35% of searches during December were for "iPad insurance" and over a quarter of resultant clicks were from PPC . Many will have foreseen the popularity of the iPad but how many lateral thinkers picked on “iPad insurance" as the opportunity became apparent and did their relevant keyword research?

That was valuable information for the financial services industry.  But it is now history although continuing popularity of the iPad will enable continuing business opportunities.

The most valuable inference, though, is the lesson to be learnt for all of us.  A continual programme of keyword research is essential to keep on top of developments in any market or niche. You or one of your team must have a slot in your schedule at least once a week when keyword research is the only acceptable job to be doing.  How else will you pick up on the next "iPad insurance" opportunity?
