Secrets of successful websites

How Google works

Google was the first search engine to go looking for sites.  Till its arrival search engines would wait for sites to be submitted for inclusion by webmasters.  But Google was different in that it based its ranking positions on inbound links.  While it was crawling sites it was therefore compiling a list of sites linked to.  If it came across URLs that weren’t in its database it went and had a look without being asked.

Google was also keen that the sites it listed was a comprehensive catalogue of every site on the web so it could be confident of delivering good results from all possible sources.
